I have Physan 20 and will give it a try. I really don't want to lose either keiki since the mother plant was beautiful. (I tried to buy her , but it was not for sale.) I'll update in a couple weeks after I get back.

my modification to the sphag n bag treatment:

I've been experimenting with a different way of doing sphag n bag. first, it's actually moist paper towel and bag, with the paper towel not in contact with the plant.

second, I open the bag and take out the plant gingerly every few days. I do this to carefully inspect for further rot/other problems, as well as to monitor progress and refresh the gas in the bag. I also use a brand new ziplock in the event that I find a problem.

so far it seems to be working better. I had tried the standard sphag n bag, but was having a lot of problems with continued decline, despite using liberal amounts of physan.

Just a quick update..I started to see fungus on my bagged keikis. Out they came, I rinsed them off and sprayed them with physan 20 and potted them up in sphagnum and small plastic pots about three days ago. Keeping them in a shaded area. So far they look great. I'll keep my fingers crossed they hold on till I get back.

This gives me hope! I bagged a Zygo a few days ago... I would really love to bring it back!

It is important to make sure the bag is not 100% sealed. There needs to be air flow, otherwise mold results regardless of how much Physan you use.

Most of my bags have a holes cut into the bottom so that as I water or spray the moss, the excess water drains away.

Hey, I haven't posted in a long time. I need help on sprag and bag. Every time I try it, I wind up with fungus gowing on the roots and/or it looks like it died of rot..

So, I do need help. Do any of you punch holes in the bag? How much water, spag is needed to start? I have tried small bits of spagnum soaked in water, but I have no idea how often it should be touched up. How often or should I open bag up again and add water?? It seems like the spagnum drys up quckly even when I have soaked it before hand.

Oh, I just read that Oscarman has holes cut in the bottom, but how often do you water and when?

My usual procedure is:

Soak moss in water, squeeze well.
Lightly place moss around root zone.
Enclose in plastic bag with a hole in the bottom for excess moisture to drain.
Check every 2-3 days and mist moss as required to keep moist - NOT wet. Mist with physan is mold/fungus is present. Mist with K-L-N to encourage root growth.
Repot when root growth is evident and roots are not too long. I aim for 1/2" long unless I am potting S/H, then I let the roots get a bit longer.

Phew, I am glad I did a search today on this ....
I have about five phals in sphag n bag and they all have white fungus/mold on them and their bottom leaves are turning yellow and falling off!!!!!

They have been in there for a week or so and I needed so serious suggestions!!!!

I hope I didn't further their process of decay!!!

I'm very pleased with results of sphag 'n' bag on a Catasetum expansum whose two flower spikes died a year ago while only half grown. This year (after a dry winter) it had refused right into summer to show any growth at all. As a last resort I tried a month of hanging the pb's with some misting but without success. Now after a further month in a plastic bag with moss, it has a one inch new growth and a fat half-inch root. I really thought the plant was a goner! Of course I still have to keep it going so now wonder at what point I should take it out of the bag and pot it??
