Ive got a bulbophyllum wendlandii who's pollen Id like to save. First spike flowers starting to shrivel, econd spikes flowers in their prime.
Can I take pollen from the shriveling flowers, or must I sacrifice one of the nicer ones?
Thanks
I would not take it from the shriveling flower. I am not sure how long these flowers last, but I do know that you do not want to take the pollen to early either. On a phal or catt it is best to wait 2 to 3 days after the flower opens.
I agree, it's too late to take pollen from the shriveled blooms. The pollen is probably no longer viable. In the case of scented orchids (I don't know if yours is) I heard that the best time is a day after the scent appears, as this is what plant use to attract pollinating insects. For non scented orchids, wait a few days after the blooms are fully open.
