Hi Dorothy

I will try to take some pics at the markets.. The vendors are not always welcoming though. I have seen many instances of poor people collecting for local sale in ways just as distructive as collecting for foreign sale. I have also heard of sellers finding loop holes to sell wild collected plants. Local law enforcement is often poor in some countries, and a number of reasons. So this may be an interesting thread to make.

As for travel. Most of my travel has been non orchid related. I have guided friends around China with my poor Chinese. I have been just lucky to see things along the way.

In Myanmar I saw Rynchostylis retusa flowering wild, wild Thunia Alba in spring growth with Pleione Maculata? and sadly Vanda Coerulea, Paphiopedilum Bellatulum and other species for sale on the roadside. Great talks with locals about local species.

I also saw the start of growth for Cypripediums in Yunnan, China, damn, just too early

Actually I would love to organise a group of orchid fanatics for a tour on a casual basis... but trying to match mother nature and a tour is a pain. However, tourist trips can be expensive, so friends keep saying do a non-pro one for friends or forum members. A friend of mine who does Jewish tours of London keeps poking me to do one

Oh crap.. off way topic again.. Any way, my flasking issue is answered I think

Maybe a should start a orchid dream tour thread.

Brett

Default Plieone pod yellowing

Hi Everyone

One of my Pleione pods has started to yellow as the stalk is beginning to fail. Oddly, it is the one that is smaller. I have a hunch now that I actually have two different species/a natural hybrid. I think I have one P. Maculata, but it looks like I might have a P. xLagenaria or P. Praecox. The bulbs have different colouring and moderately different shape.

My question is, if one pod is yellowing, yet the other is not, would the still green pod be ready to sow green pod. Or am I better to wait for it to start to yellow also? The still green pod is larger too, but maybe it is species related. I'd rather take them in at the same time to sow.
