2 different rooting hormones wich is best? Female
Default 2 different rooting hormones wich is best?

i have 2 seperate bottles of rooting hormones.. wich one would be best for use in attempting to get a rootless backbulb or phal or even a cattleya to start new root growth.. the first is take root by schultz its hormone is indole 3 butyric acid.. then inert ingredients..
the second is green light.. root tone..with fungicide
its main chemical is 1-naphthaleneacetamide and thiram ( tetramethylthiuram)
i have both.. and of course ihave a rescue cattleya that has one little pokey root that is stil good the others are toast..
if ones of these will help without harming the plant.. would love to hear about it. i also have a couple phals rescues that are the same way lol..

From Wikipedia:

"Substances with rooting effects are [...] based on signaling activity of plant hormone auxin. Various auxin compounds were implemented in various commercially available products."

Among specific substances mentioned there are the two that you named: indole 3 butyric acid and 1-naphthaleneacetic acid (practically synonymous with your -amide version).

Thiram is the fungicide.

Except for the fungicide, I expect these products will be about the same. I don't suppose it could hurt to apply them both, if you decide to use a root stimulator at all? I actually don't have any idea whether any of it will work on a rootless orchid backbulb. I also don't have any idea whether they'll be harmless.

I have been told that the Schultz would be no good for trying to get roots on an orchid, it's mainly for cuttings. I have 3 catts that I rescued from a big box store, of course they didn't have even one root. I potted them up anyway and hoped for the best. As of right now, they all have new bulbs developing and new roots to go with them. I mist them daily and soak in water with SuperThrive about once every week or so, since the roots are still quite small, they don't need as much water. Don't give up on it, just give it time and let it do it's thing. At this point you already have better than I got! Good Luck!!!

I too would stay away from the powder stuff. I would use KLN or SuperThrive.

K-L-N Liquid Rooting Concentrate Here you go here is a link for some KLN. It will help you understand better what it is. It will help promote root growth. I really really need to get some of this stuff! Been meaning to for awhile.
