Default ATTENTION ALL FLASKERS....

There, now that I have your attention , I have a question for all you flaskers. How long do you usually keep flasked seed before tossing it.....i.e.if the seed hasn't germinated, how long do you usually keep it around before deciding the seed isn't viable? I've had seed germinate in five days, and I've had seed that germinated in six weeks. I'm getting low on space in the nursery, and was considering weeding out some old inactive ones. I wanted to get some opinions before I started tossing them. What is the longest you have had a seed take to germinate? Any opinions are appreciated!

some flasks will germinate in a few days, others have been known to take as long as 17 years. as a general rule, if there's no mold in it, keep it.

Holy *%#&, 17 years! That better be one awesome orchid. I guess I'm gonna need more space! Thanks!

I'll let you know when I toss one!

Seriously, I would keep them for a long time. I haven't been at it long enough to be able to say. I have read about someone (working mostly with terrestrials) who had success "waking up" some old ungerminated flasks with a cool treatment. If it were me, I would try altering something before just tossing them. Try the fridge for 6 weeks. Then back to the light for a couple of weeks. Maybe try warming another one. Couldn't hurt right?
