Wow Jasen....you're sure doing something right for these guys.
I've never heard of this before, but then again, I haven't been growing from seed for very long at all either. Freak occurance or otherwise, it's still pretty cool in my book.
Thanks for sharing this freaky thing with us.

it happens quite a bit with dendrobiums, less often with other types of orchids.

That's amazing! I've never heard of that happening before. And I thought that seed grown orchid didn't bloom for years!

I've seen this happen with miniature cattleyas also. Not normal but it occurs once in a while.

Interesting photos. Thanks. By the way what sort of flask and medium were they in?
Boy, they are great looking little plants.

They were sown in Phytotech's medium (p723), and re-plated in P785....both had additional banana, coconut milk, and a little rooting hormones. I've noticed these extras make quite a difference, plus they were raised under T5 lighting, which has the perfect spectrum for healthy seedlings. They definitely come out a little more stout and healthy-looking than some flasks that I have bought. All my seedlings go from flask, immediately to full-strength fertilizers, and sun (in a couple days)....that way, they take right off!

Jasen,
Do you use this mix for all of your flasks? Also, what rooting hormone do you use; is it one of the growth regulators that Phytotech sells (I didn't notice one labled root hormone)?
Thanks, David
