I believe that the back bulbs provide nutrients to the rest of the plant even after blooming. I've read that you want to keep at least 4 bulbs intact. With that said, if you want to propagate, carefully remove the bulb with roots (if that's possible). If you have roots, then plant normally. If not, what works for me is to plant in regular bark mixture and keep the media on the drier side, and mist the bulb itself daily. This method is supposed to promote root growth. I also maintain higher than normal humidity if possible. This method worked for me with brassias and bulbos.
