I've wondered that too. I imagine that prolific hybridizers register only what they are proud of, or hoping/searching for. Some turn out "plain" or very similar to another exisiting cross, or just inherit undesirable traits. They might not want to pay the fee and fill out the paperwork on those.
Could be that the cross has been made, but they are waiting for flowers to photograph and include with the application. I thought you HAD to submit a photo, but evidently they'll accept an application without one. I guess they just prefer it.

Royal - Scroll down to Regulations and Applications at the RHS site I posted and it will tell you what you need to know about registering an orchid - Royal Horticultural Society - Plants: Registration of Orchids
or if you don't wish to download the pdf. page ..
Ray has a guide here - Registering Your Orchid Hybrid
(You do have to provide a photo of the flowering orchid)

I don't know why some crosses are name yet not registered ..
As an example, the bottom of this page lists the primary hybrids of P. lobbii and the note indicates that not all are registered names - Phalaenopsis lobbii
Just thought I would throw this link in .. as it is a page of photos of these primary hybrids

Thanks Dorothy. I have it bookmarked too, I go there pretty often doing research.
Another OB member successfully registered a cross while the plants were still seedlings. I thought a photo was required too, but they said it was ok if he sent it in later.

Because there are actually people out there that make and sell crosses, that can't find it in their wallets to spend the measly $12 to do their part in keeping the nomenclature correct! Can ya believe that?

I think intergeneric or primary hybrids are the only ones that require a photo upon registration. Mine was neither of those, so I told them I would send them a photo when it bloomed....and it worked! Blc. Mem. Gerald Miller 'Bumpa' was accepted!

Hi, just wanted to update. A nice healthy seed pod has formed on the P. Mini Mark. So that would be a cross between Mini Mark and P. lobbii. However, for some reason or other, my two attempts at fertilizing P. lobbii with Mini Mark failed. P. lobbii did not form pods.
