Default large paph division

Hi,

I have several paph that are getting kind of large now. when I divide them how to divide them. The number 3 keeps pooping up cymbidiums and Catleyas people say 3 bulb minimum when divivding. does this apply to paphs as well?

Also when you divide there is a tough "woody" root when you cut them how do you "cure" it some have said with paint or special sealer?

Thanks,
Jim

you can divide a papgh by keeping at least one older growth (useually the one in flower .or the one that has flowered)plus a new growth.
ofcourse you could have more than 2fans.
treat the roots with cinamon

I have divided per snow's suggestion as well as a single fan, the single fan takes longer to produce and looks so lonely . When I dividing find the natural break between the two or more parts of the plant and dividing down this natural split. One sure way to add to your collection

Treat with cinimon? just sprinkle the powder on it?

There is no minimum "fans" , is there a benifit to more?

Thanks,
Jim

Yes, cinammon. Yes, there is a benefit of more fans....the more fans that are on the division, the more water storage capacity. It will bloom quicker because it doesn't have to struggle to make a root system....it always has a reserve water tank to draw from.

Cinnamon has anti-microbial properties. Many growers dip the new cut to 'seal' the wound.
