Could breathing in orchid seed dust make you sick?
Ok, this is a crazy question, but I have to ask. You know how powdery it is? Well I must have breathed it in and now I have irritation and pressure in my sinuses (forehead and cheeks). I don't have allergies and don't usually get anything like this. Has anyone else ever experienced this?
The good news is I now have a lot of seeds. (Brassavola nodosa x self)

I don't think it's a crazy question. I have not experienced this but too much of anything can cause problems. I hope you are feeling better soon.

I'd say inhaling any foreign substance is not good. Hey, it's cleaner than dust. Hope it passes quickly.

probably a stupid question, but what is orchid seed dust? .. havent really gotten used to the english terms yet, so bare with me ...
if its from the orchid its self (which i assume?) then im pretty sure you dont have to worry at all, i havent heard about any orchids that produce toxins
if its some human produced chemical that is named orchid seed dust, it depends on what that contains.. so couldnt really answer that unless you write the list of content

You might be having an allergic reaction, but it is probably just the right kind of reaction. Your body is supposed to react to foreign matter in exactly that way.
I don't recommend sniffing seeds, though.

Thanks, everyone. Just in case you were wondering, I didn't breath it in on purpose! The pods were very dry and when I cracked them open the seeds (which are almost a dust) came out in a puff. So a little was circulating in the air while I worked on the other 2 pods. It was irritating right away, just like any dust would be. It made me cough a little and I felt it in my throat but nothing terrible. But that was Sunday and it is still feeling weird and actually a little worse. The sinuses in my forehead and cheeks hurt and the back of my throat is a little sore. However I have no sneezing or runny nose or any cold symptoms. It is the weirdest thing I have ever experienced! Well I guess it will go away eventually. Just be careful not to breath it in if you ever open any of those pods!
My brother keeps telling me that was the way the alien got inside that guy in the movie Alien (with Sigourney Weaver).

Hopefully whatever pops out of you will look prettier.

I heard of being into orchids but I never imagined having them get into you ! I guess snorting them is the quickest way ..
Aside the kidding, you should be fine ..
and don't be surprised if you sprout keikis from your orifices and phalanges.
