Best pressure cookers ?
Thumbs down Best pressure cookers ?

Just like any other piece of equipment I assume some pressure cookers are better built and are better suited for Orchid culture. Any recommendations on size, mfgs and models will be appreciated. Regards

I am using a Presto 23 Qt pressure cooker. The box said that it can hold 7 quarts or 20 pints but I usually only put in about 16 pints at a time. (16 pints will hold 2 liters of media with about 1/2 to 3/4" in the bottom of each.) This one has worked very well for me. I would tend not to go with the cheapest. Hope you get replies from others.

Great feedback John as I am currently looking at getting a Presto 23 Qt pressure cooker as well for the same purposes.

I use an "All American" 915 holds 15 quart jars. they are more expensive new but can be found used. They have a metal to metal fit instead of rubber gasket in the lid. search the web for all american canner.

The All-American are pricey, but I've heard good things about them. All I can say is to go with a well known company. When/if you need replacement parts, you'll be glad you did. I'm using my mother-in-law's from the 60's. Bought a new gasket for 8 bucks and I'm set.

As for size, I'd go big. 23 qt sounds good. Mine is only 8 quarts, which limits me to smaller flasks, which limits me to smaller batches of media. Still, I can fit 10 small baby food jars (two layers), or 4 big peanut butter jars. I'd say it's really just personal preference.

Thanks Everyone for your suggestions here. I'm getting my lesson on flasking from a well known hybridizer on Nov. 6th, and still need to get one of these babies. I'll make a seperate post when I've got it all together.
