Default Keiki

In my album you will find 3 pictures
( not sure how to show them here)
I used the Keiki drops.. some of it ran down the stem...
it looks like I do have one new plant on the stem and one on the plant...
NOW WHAT DO I DO... I am happy and exited, but have no clue where to take it from here.
I am inclined to wait till I see some roots before doing anything

any ideas and help are welcome.http://www.orchidboard.com/community...cratchhead.gif
cheers
peter

I looked at the pictures , I would wait to see what happens you are right have to have roots before you can do anything the growth at the base of the plant might be a basal kieki or another spike (I don't think it is a root ) When you get roots on the spike growth and the roots are about 3 inches long then it can be removed . if the one at the base is a keiki leave it on the plant it will grow faster ,when large it can be removed . Yes, they have the potential to be keikis. So leave them alone until they have roots....big roots!

My vote on the basal growth is it's a spike...but perhaps too early to tell for sure. Nubbins, anyone?

that little thing on the base of the plant sure looks like a leaf.. can not get close with my camera.. also found a new growth lower on the plant just above the medium.. so got 3 things to look out for... some new roots, those are easy to spot.
wow this is getting really fun
I was dead worried during my holidays ...this new growth on the plant would be dead... 3 growth now ...wow
The weather here in S Ontario has helped...lots of rain, humid and hot..
On my holidays I put all my orchids outside in a bright shady spot. Could not ask the folks looking after the dogs to also care for orchids...
will keep you guys up to date
cheers

it is now very clear "Keiki" on the stem, it almost looks like 2 of them side by side.. will have to see, but one thing is clear there are leaves. the others one on the lower part of the plant... also leaf growth and in between a few leaf also little leafs... so now waiting for some roots to grow...then I will need help again on how to remove them...but for now let mama look after the babies.

I have removed just 2 keikies of the same plant a few months ago. A friend ask me to do that.

After the roots were long enough (around 5 cm, I cant think in inches..) we've cut not the keiki but the spike, leaving a few mm in the roots area. We used a very sharp knife and after the cutting we've put some cinnamon in the exposed part of the keiki and mother plant to prevent an infection.

The keikies were then put in a small transparent pot and filled with bark. I've tried to do this carefully not to breake any roots.

After 2 or 3 weeks one of the keiki produced a spike and then bloomed ...
