keiki

About 2 weeks ago I applied some keiki to a phal ( was done blooming ) on the stem ( all nodes )
Now one node seems to start a root it's about 1/8 of an inch at tis point. What should I expect next ? some leaves, and when should I cut from the main plant?
This is so great to see something happening.
Can you tell it's my first time?

We would like a picture of your project because the pic is worth a thousand words....As you can see from the pics, sometimes using a keiki paste promotes the growth of a new flower spike while, I'm hoping big time, sometimes you get a keiki.....time will tell

I agree with Howard. Keikis are funny things. If the "root" you describe advances and then has a white part next to the flower stem, it is a root. Otherwise, it is a new spike. Typically the leaves emerge first, then the roots. Sometimes you will have an entire baby plant before you see the first root. At this stage of its life, it really doesn't need roots, since the parent is supplying the nutrition.

Applying the solution at a earlier or later stage could make a difference or is it just the luck of the draw?

No, there is method to this maddness!!!!! From what others have said who use some kind of hormone stimulator, the plant should be in a vegetive growth phase; and just because the last flower has opened doesn't necessaily mean it is leaf production time. Looking back at when I've used the hormone (Keiki Grow Plus), I applied it a bit too early and got flower spikes...

Hmm.... I just joined orchidboard and I am newbie with orchids but I learn new things every day. Thanks for the pics. Now I know exactly where to expect keikis irw
Is it true that phal hybrids do not produce keikis so easyly?

I don't think that's true about the hybrids. Some hybrids do produce lots of keikis. It just depends what phals they have in their genetics, as some tend to make keikis more often. For example, I think that hybrids with a good part of phal equestris in them will keiki more willingly, like is the case of one of my hybrid phals.

Could not take a good picture, but I did have a real good look, and it looks like there are 2 tiny little leaves. Will keep up to date as it goes...but this is great stuff !!!
