Hello,
Zuchinni?? That's interesting, I read about TURNIP for in vitro of terrestrial orchid media.
What is the exact quantity of Zuchinni for 1litre of media? You see any other difference in growing them with or without Zucchini?
My college will replate the plants, and will mesure the PH, so soon we will know for sure if that's the problem
Thank you

Hahaha, some popular magic "snake oil" (kidding, organic additive) for orchid medium: coconut water, banana, potato, sweet potato, tomato, corn flake, corn mill, papaya, taro, brown rice, rose hip, baby fruit, etc... You name it and people have been tried it. See the following link for an interesting research of organic extracts for orchid.

Hello,
He mesured the PH this morning, when he was replating the plants. Aaaaaaaand...... YES! it was the Ph, he said it came down to 3 in some parts of the flask.
Thank you all!!!
I'm going to do the first replate of my own flasks in a few days or maybe a week. By know are just protocorms, but one flask is starting to be to full and the other I think it has a very little phenolic exhudation.
The other flasks are not ready yet.
I also have some terrestrial orchid seeds and I would like to know if you think they need something special. I have been reading and I'm a little confused, some say the need a dark period, some say they do not. Some says cold period... You have any tip for me...
Thank you,
Olivia

Are the flasks vented? I get that problem in mother flasks that I leave to long. Eventually all the CO2 is used up, and the plants have a hard time making food. The C in the sugar isn't enough. Venting helps.
pH could be the problem, Like you said it was 3 in part of the flask, but you nver said how fast the plants went downhill. Do you have that info?

Hello Kyle,
Our flasks are not vented, I use the media with tomato and banana and had no problem so far.
He used the media of the banana, no tomato. He said the plants died fast, in a few days, but I will ask exactly how many and I will tell you.

It tough to know what could be the problem. At pH 3, the plants would diffinatly have problems absorbing some nutirents from the media. Are you familliar with this chart?
Nutrients are very limited at pH 3.
One of those two things probably caused you browning.
Oh, what kind of plants are they. Some genera do some wierd things...

Zuchinni has a complex sugar that many orchids react to - and some don't. We used amounts of pureed zuchinni at 10 gm/L solutions and got a bit too much foliage and too little roots, though is seemed to stop and reverse (in a few cases) the transparent-pale brown rot. I would suggest half or less of that concentration.

Maitaman,
Do you have any experience getting root growth in phrags. Any suggestions of what I can add to my p668 based media?
