Intergenetic/hybridization compatibility
Thumbs down Intergenetic/hybridization compatibility

It is my understanding that all orchid species are not capable of being hybridized with every other orchid species. There are only certain species that can hybridize with Cattleyas for example. What I am trying to find out is if a book/s or written list exists that tells you what orchids can be crossed with what orchids?

I would say that most of orchid hybridization is by trial and error. The Sander's List/RHS registery should give you an ideal of which orchids easily hybridize with others by looking at their Grex or Parentage. Understanding Orchids by William cullina has a table of hybrid genera. Hope this info helps some.

I have been curious about this too. What if you cross an Iwanagara with a Potinara?
