Could you please tell me what will happen with this.
It is growing quite rapidly and the leaves are very far apart

It's confused. It's not sure whether it's a flower spike or a new plant. I would let the plant do what it wants to and not cut anything off. If this doesn't turn into a new plant, you will get flowers. It is highly likely the plant will eventually make another growth from the base and will survive long-term.
