Div of Blc. Sea Swirl 'Whirlpool'?

-Chuck here... I have been raising orchids pretty much all my life. Used to live up in Michigan.. now live in Central Fla. Have tons of orchids here.. they are in Orchid heaven. I have been in search of 2 orchids actually Blc. Sea Swirl 'Whirlpool', and the Phal called Big Bang which I know is an older, about 8 years back,,, but id still like to find it if I could. Its yellow with deep maroon or grape colorings on it.
I had a sea swirl when I moved from Michigan, but it froze on the way down. I couldn't keep it warm enough.

Ive checked with just about everyone including Hausermann's.

Id appreciate your help on either one

The Western Kentucky Botanical Garden had a Sea Swirl 'Whirlpool' in their greenhouse a few years ago. I know because I volunteered there for a time. I don't know if it's still alive or not, but you could call and check. Good luck.

I am seeing a sea swirl listed right now on ebay. I have one myself but have never gotten it to bloom. I believe the person selling it is a pretty well-known collector. Not cheap though Blc. Sea Swirl Wirlpool’ HCC/AoS | eBay

For what it's worth orchidroots has it listed as Rlc.

I dont point that out to be a be a stickler, you may just find it more places under that name...

Thanks... Ive looked at it listed under many sever classifications. It just seems to be a disappearing variety.

I had it years back when I was in Michigan, now I live in Florida where it is much easier for me to cultivate orchids. I loved this one because it grew taller green variety Catts. I have the Port of Paradise. Its just not the same animal as far as I am concerned. Sea Swirl is much more distinct and prominent. Its tall, giant sized perfect blooms.

What used to be Brassavola digbyana (& glauca) were transferred to Rhyncholaelia in 2007 (based on a 1918 proposal). That made the correct acronym Blc. up to 2007, and Rllc. thereafter.

In 2009 (approx) Laelia purpurata was transferred to Sophronitis. That made this plant a Rlsc.

In 2011 Sophronitis was transferred to Cattleya, which caused the final change to Rlc.
