hello again!

so, we have 2 pods on different plants of the same cross (mannii x mannii flava), the diff is that one of the pod parent mannii plants has prominent, bold, dark bars of pigment and the other mannii pod parent has visibly smaller bars/less pigmentation on every flower. the flava pollen parents are all virtually identical and i just harvested all available pollen for storage from all three possible flava pollen donors, so i don't know which of the flava's has donated pollen to which pod mother.
the plan (assuming both capsules make it) is to send them to different flaskers (hopefully mr. f will chime in and be one of those flaskers for the darker plant) and the other i want to send to lucke.

i have higher hopes for the darker of the mannii pod parents, only because the disparity between the two parents of that cross is greater and i feel it might make more interesting variations. but i am open to differing opinions and would invited those with more experience to chime in on if they think there would be any variation at all in the offspring or if folk think most will just come out looking like the mother mannii plant (if that make any sense)

Nice, successful pollination is always a pleasant sight!
If memory serves, you should be able to harvest seeds in about 6 months.

But wait, how many mannii do you own exactly? Did you post pics of the plants?

I could flask a bunch for you, I gotta order some more media anyway.
If you're looking for pollen, I might have a few pollinia still in the fridge that I could miss.

i just checked the record sheet and these attempts were made one month ago on april 8. so yeah, hopefully around end of august or so things might be ready. and thanks for the flasking offer! you know based on our prior convos i plan to send you a couple (one of these at least and one or two more interesting things)

we have 3 each of mannii and mannii flava. only because i like the flowers and i think they would make good bases for some crosses so we got multiples to have some variety and choice with our breeding (and also thinking one or more might die or not flower).

the one notable difference in the flava plants is in the flowering growth habits. 2 of them grow nice clumps of flowers, but the 3rd has flowers that kinda go all wonky in every direction. (i think i only posted a close up pic of one each of the plants in flower, just for detail)

also maybe of interest is that every recirpocal cross attempt with flava as the pod parent has failed. maybe the pollenia on the manniis is not viable? but multiple plants were attempted and none took, so im not sure what to make of that. these pods were the only 2 attempts made in that direction (so 100% success rate v 0% rate is a wierd disparity, imo)

Can't say about mannii flava, but alba/flava of other Phal species have been notorious for being either slow growing, easily sulking, or very hard to breed with.
Javanica alba comes to mind.

Some plants don't accept pollination at all. I've tried maybe 15 flowers over 2 years on my Angraecum Veitchii, that bastard always drops the flowers.

And sometimes even non viable pollinia will seemingly work, until you crack the pod open and see dud seeds without embryos.
