I know it has been a while for this post but I have had a seed capsule since early feb and ask mysrlf everyday is it ready yet. Your Odont looks just like the one that I pollinated. Now I know about how much longer I will have to wait. I have had my flasks ready for a month now and I see no contamination. I have done quite a bit of micro work in the past so I was very careful on keeping things clean althugh I did not do this in a home made glove box or LFH. I plan on using a tote to flask just to try to avoid any outside contamination during times where things may be exposed Thank you for posting this has given me a good time frame.

Very cool! Yeah, I think 7-10 months is what I’ve seen for odontoglossum capsules, iirc. Just keep an eye out for yellowing…usually a good indicator that it’s ready to dehisce. If you don’t have a LFH, an upside down Rubbermaid or similar tote with holes cut in it makes a great still air box for sterile work. Crummy pic and currently used for storage but you get the idea:

howdy dorchid...
we have a couple leptotes bicolor selfing capsules that we were gonna throw away. thought id ask if you were interested. pretty sure we can send them to you. send a pm if you want! |
Ooh…that would be cool! Can you send just the seed? Might be cheaper/easier than sending capsules across the pond. Could be put in a letter that way.

hey, yeah for sure! pm me your addy and we will post them. we will give you all the seed from 3 capsules (i assume there is seed in there!) so there should be some for you to use.
