Vanda Pimsai’s from a flask
Hi Everyone,
I’m new here so please be gentle!
A bit of a tale of woe this one. February 2018 I opened some sterile flasks of Agar and planted out my Vanda Pimsai onto a heated propogater. I settled on a mix of cocunut husk, perlite and sphagnum Moss. All was well for the first year. House is over 18 degrees C orchids get sunlight for a few hours in the afternoon on a westerly facing window. Every day I took the lids off the pots and shook the condensation back in and watered using mineral water once a week.
My work took me abroad for 9 weeks Monday to Friday and I was unable to do the daily lids off routine. I returned home early May and all was not well with the vandas. I had ocassionally suffered black spot but removed the leaves and dipped in cinnamon powder. This time the centre of the plants was black and I’m losing them on a weekly basis. I’ve tried repotting and Alliette fungacide. I’ve now today repotted in a medium of charcoal and polystyrene. The plants have been washed in diluted Bayer Fungus fighter. I’ve also placed the plants propogater onto a south west facing window. But I really am out of ideas. Ive kept several other mature orchids including a Vanda for 10 years but these baby plants have me stumped for ideas. Can anyone offer advice
