Where do you guys buy Lycaste?
I have been to several orchid shows and have been unable to find them. Only a few online nurseries I have seen have them. No luck at the local TJs/Lowe's.
What shall I do? Thanks! |
You are most likely to find them during blooming season. There were a couple of vendors at the Pacific Orchid Expo last Feb. who had them for sale. Sorry that I don't remember the names.
You don't say where you are located--your local orchid society might be able to help. |
I have quite a few and, yes, they are not easy to find. The majority of the Lycaste I have right now were either purchased from Russ Vernon of New Vision Orchids or were given to me by a friend who gave me divisions as well as some that she just didn't want any longer.
Russ's website is not always the most up to date but you can always email him to see what he has available. He has the best selection of any vendor I have ever found. Emailing him for a current list is your best bet though. Some other vendors that I have purchased from over the years:
It's possible that I've purchased the odd one here and there from other people...but I can't remember any names right now. This is a side of my collection that has exploded in the past couple of years and I'm always on the look-out for new sellers. As a matter of fact, the Lycaste have all but completely pushed out all my Ctsm. If I run across any vendors, I'll try to remember to let you know. |
Be sure you can give them the temperatures and humidity they like before getting a lot of them. Many are intolerant of dry warmth.
|
Orchids.com has some Lycaste available now. I suggest you read the vendor feedback section of Orchid Board regarding this company before ordering from them. I have always received good plants from them.

I don't have any, but Hausermann generally has at least one variety.
|
Hausermann's only lists some of their inventory on their Web site. If you call they will tell you what they have. The weather has been too cold to ship from Chicago for weeks, and no letup in sight.
|
Cal Orchid has lots of them - they specialize in the new hybrids coming out of Japan, but often have others as well.
