Help with my medusa
 

HI all. I have tried a couple of Bulbos with no luck. Last year I got a Medusa and it is growing for me. It is in a basket with spag. in it. The spag. looks like it is really breaking down. I know that they hate their roots being disturbed, so what do I do? Just put new spag on old, or try to pull out the old and add new? I can't just drop it into another basket because I have several bulbs growing under the basket. thank you.

I can't really help since I have only repotted my bulbos once officially (when I got them) and don't grow Bulbo. Medusa, but I can say that my plan is to eventually try to pull up as much of the old sphag as I can without damaging the roots and replace it (mine are also in baskets, growing in bark with a thick layer of sphag on top).

I can also say, if it helps, that I dropped one of my bulbos several times and basically had to shove it back in the pot, and it's grown consistently and never showed any signs that this disturbed it, so I think they aren't as fussy as people fear they are :)

thanks Lacie. I dropped mine also. it cost me a new growth. I think I will just try what u suggest. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Bulbos don't mind being repotted in the least. When it's actively making growth and roots, pull it out of the old moss, swish it in water to get rid of the old moss, and repot into fresh sphagnum. As you probably know most (not all) Bulbos like a lot of water and shouldn't dry out completely.

Thank you estacion. Iam alittle scared because I lost a really nice Ann buckley(?) awhile ago. grew great for me but never bloomed. it died after a repot.

Most people don't water Bulbos enough. They have very thin, shallow roots that dry out rapidly.

I totally agree with estacion. If it’s putting out roots, most are ok. I have a Mother and a division from her of medusa. Do not try to repot it if there are no new rots growing! I lost a beautiful Bulbophyllum dearei 'Matt' AM/AOS division once because of this. If your into any products, Kelpmax really has helped me get roots starting with Bulbophyllum many times. Good Luck.
