Making lots of keikis!

:hello I have aquired quite a few dens over the years. Many of them were orphans and very distressed. And I guess it is nature for them to make keikis when they are old or dying. So now I have lots of dens! :photo: Here are some pictures. The really ugly plants have given me the most keikis. The really tall ones are almost 4 ft tall and about 8-10 years old (still blooming). :blushing:

Here is a group shot of most of my den family (parents and offspring). :blushing:

Nice Dens, susie :)

The keikis on some of those have very long roots...they can be removed and potted once the roots are 2-3 inches long. The pics showing new growth coming up from the pot aren't keikis, they're actually new growths/canes

Okay, what am I missing here? I don't see any ugly dendrobiums. They all look great to me! :)

Thanks! The ugly plant I was referring to is in the first picture. That is an orphan. :_( I got at least 10 keikis off that one. I have no more room for keikis! I already potted them 5-6 to a pot. Aren't those nice fat canes coming up? Cane-type dens are very easy to grow down here. Some of those are AOS/ something (prize winners, I assume) But I have mixed all the keikis up now :hmm . If any one wants some keikis let me know! I have more trouble with the nobile-type. Some of the nobile keikis are not doing as well. They seem to rot at the base if grown in the same way. In the picture with 7 pots of keikis you will notice the nobile ones are about to croak. I have learned that they need to drain really well!

Great looking dens and a great family group shot. I wish I lived closer to Weston I would love a couple of more Dendrobiums. I have only had one keiki off a den in all the years I've grown mine. I have divided a few over the years but never a lot of keikis. Your plants look really good. We do have good growing conditions for dens down here don't we. I guess we are just lucky. Now if it would only start raining.

Great setup! Don't have that much luck with Dendros myself, but enjoy seeing other peoples plants and setups.

Nice dens and for one minute there I thought they were looking like mine except my old dens are in full bloom , more than ten years. I have shared keikis and potted some also but I am running out of space and do not want to go overboard as I do have bad bouts of RA flares and then my plants suffer from neglect....

:scratchhead: What are RA flares?
