Orchids in Oaxaca
5 Attachment(s)
A friend is a field herpetologist (see HERP.MX / Discovering, Rediscovering, and Conserving Mexico's Herpetofauna ). He photographed these orchids near Totontepec, Oaxaca. This is in the Sierra Madre Oriental northeast of Oaxaca city. I can tell the first is in the Oncidium alliance and the yellow ones look like Lycaste. Can anybody provide more information? Is the red one something in the Stanhopinae?

The first one looks like maybe Odontoglossum or Lemboglossum The 3 middle ones are definitely Lycaste. There are several species that look very similar ( I have aromatica, cochleata, and consobrina, there are others) Perhaps you can make a better ID from the location. The red one looks a lot like Encyclia vitellina. Do you have a photo of the rest of the plant? Looked it up in Orchidwiz, and E. vitellina is native to that area.
