Zygopetalum Trozy Blue
Hi,
Earlier this year, I got a really lovely orchid labelled Zygopetalum Trozy Blue from Burnham Nurseries, during the Glasgow Orchid Fair. It flowered for months and had a really beautiful fragrance, and seems to be happy enough at the moment. The other day, I found orchidroots.com, and was trying some of my orchids in it to see what information I could find about their genetics etc (just for curiosity really!), but couldn't find my Zygo there, then I tried Google and only found online houseplant shops, I even tried the AOS archives and couldn't find anything. So now I'm trying here - does anyone have any information about Zygopetalum Trozy Blue? I'm assuming it's the same care as other zygos, so I'm not too worried about that. I'm just trying to learn about what species have gone in to make the orchids that I have as it's so fascinating! |
Have you tried the RHS data base? That is where all orchid crosses are registered. Not sure if Orchidroots has all registered orchids but it is a good site for additional info and see an orchid cross family tree.
The International Orchid Register / RHS Gardening If it is not listed there, then the cross used to make your particular plant was never registered and the grower just gave it a name so they could sell the plants in the marketplace. If it was never registered there would be no way to say just what particular parents were used. This basically makes the plant a NoID. You could however try contacting the grower, if you have that info, and see if they might be able to give you the info your looking for. Since you say it seems to be happy, just continue to give it the Zygopetalum culture you've been giving it and it should continue to be happy. :) Judi |
I checked Orchidwiz (orchid database program) that easily lets one search on part of a name (unlike the RHS list, which is pretty unfriendly) I looked for anything with "Blue" as part of the name, in the Zygo group and came up empty-handed. So that is no doubt a "trade name", not registered. But for care, just treat like any Zygo and enjoy.

Luckily I got it from Burnham Orchids and it's got one of their tags in so I'll contact them and ask and hopefully they'll have some more info. Quote:

I don't come bearing any pearls of wisdom I'm afraid, but I saw the Trozy Blue online last week and fell in love with it and ordered it straight away. Looking forward to receiving it this week. 😀
