Very strange Phalaenopsis with spikes on leaves. Need help with ID

Hi everyone!
I've bought this orchid at food supermarket and it looks very strange. Can you please help me with id of this hybrid? Thank you. |
The flowers look to me as though the plant is infected with a virus. I would keep it away from your other orchids, and wash your hands after you touch it. I would throw it away because I don't want to risk having a bad virus in my plants.
The plant also isn't getting enough water. That is one reason the leaves are wrinkled. |
While virus is generally difficult to diagnose, I'm going to second the comment that it looks virused. Deformity of the petals combined with color break (the streaks/mottling) is a very strong warning sign. I'm also suspicious that the leaf texture may also be virus related. If it was entirely due to dehydration, the leaves wouldn't be as upright and firm as they appear to be in the photo.
If you have other orchids (or plan on getting more) I agree that the best thing to do is throw it away. (garbage, not compost or green collection bin). |
