Phal Grosbeak "sweet fragrance"
3 Attachment(s)
My favorite phal. It is hard to believe that I have been growing this since 2012. It has a wonderful sweet fragrance of fruit loops and pixie sticks.
This blooms 3 times a year in flushes from spring to late fall. |
Beautiful coloring on that one. Phal. bellina in the background?
|
I second the thought. It's beautiful.

Very pretty flower, though the plant looks like it's overdue for a repot.

"Fruit Loops and pixie stix" ... what's not to love?
 |
Lovely! No wonder it is a favorite!

the plants screams phal bellina in its background, very nice

Very nice flower, I bet it smells wonderful.
I'm curious about the ID on this. The flower screams "bellina hybrid" but when I looked up the parentage of this cross Orchid Roots says it is 87.5% violacea and 12.5% lueddemanniana. I know that bellina was considered a variety of violacea so I wonder if bellina is in the parentage of this plant and whether the Grosbeak ID still applies. |
Yes, it does have bellina in its background. I am not sure if it has had a name change as a result of taxonomy reclassifications. I received this plant from Norman's orchids and I went with the name on the tag.
I do need to repot this one, but it is leaning really far over, so I am not sure how to proceed. Any suggestions would be helpful. |
For what it's worth, I like to put these "ramblers" into wood baskets - think of it as a 3-dimensional mount. Some small bark or a bit of sphag in the basket helps keep it hydrated. But I get roots attaching to the basket, which tends to keep them out of other pots.
