Hi
Anyone out in forum land rock hounds? I like looking for finding them. I have an awesome collection of various mineral, fossils, specimens. Its amazing just how old some of my collection.

I know this is a bit past due, but I enjoy it too, I've got quite the assortment of stuff, and just got a really cool specimen of bismuth the other day.

To the OP - someone recently pointed out to me that your post was in the wrong place, so I moved it to it's own thread in the subforum. Please let me know if you would like a different thread title, even though it's now a bit dated.

I see this an older post, but yes, I've been known to pick up a rock or two. Here in MI it's mostly fossils in the lower peninsula and copper related minerals and agates up north.

Hey, where was this thread buried where I didn't see it before? Thanks for moving it. Birdbrain, the pictures are great, looks like you have a nice collection. I once had 8 tons of river rock delivered for a landscaping project. I was a little slow getting it finished, as I had to look through it all for the good ones and set them aside. Nothing as nice as what you have though! Of course I'm a rock collector, thanks for sharing the pictures.

I'm envious, you live in the perfect spot for it. A number of years ago we visited some friends in Yuma for a week. Over a number of hiking trips I had picked up some nice petrified wood, some agates, calcedoney, etc. and had them packed in my somewhat heavy backpack for the return trip home. While boarding the plane one of the shoulder straps slipped and the bag hit the floor. One of the passengers in first class commented "What have you got in there, rocks?" All I could do was smile and do a mental "Well, yeah!"

I like rocks, too. Years ago, my husband and I kind of got into it, and although we were not doing a whole lot of the actual collecting ourselves, we did make the rounds of the rock shows and ended up with a nice, if small, collection of beautiful rocks from all over the world. I think it is so amazing to look at them and think that they were made by the earth itself, through totally natural processes, over vast time periods, with no help from any of us. :)

We love rocks at our house, although we are very unscientific about it. We just pick anything up that we think is pretty or unusual, along with various other natural finds like wood, cactus skeletons, seed pods, beach glass, shells, etc. The house is littered with our scavenged treasures!
