Scaphyglottis not growing-but blooms
1 Attachment(s)
I think my postof this question ended up in an alliance group and don’t know how. Anyway, I have had this Scaphyglottis prolifera for 4 years and I really can’t see that it has gotten any bigger on its Kool Log. But it loves to bloom. Should I pot it? Put it in a basket? Leave it as it is? Help

I doubt that it wants to be potted. It is probably fine as it is. I am not familiar with this particular species, but with others of the genus I find that they grow slowly. They seem to put their energy into the delightful sequential blooms. Eventually, when a spike does finally die off, you may see new growth, getting ready for another batch of spikes. If it blooming, it's happy. And these little guys can keep popping out new flowers for months or years, Enjoy!

In short, warm and mounted, dry in between waterings. |
I have this Scaphyglottis prolifera, purchased in October of 2016. My plant is potted, it was potted when I purchased it from J&L Orchids at a show. It is growing in spaghnum moss and grows well, flowers often. In fact, it needs a larger pot now.
I grow this in a indoor greenhouse under T5 HO lights though the Scaphyglottis is at the edge of a shelf receiving less light. The temperature is mid 80’s to 60 with high humidity, usually 80%. I have a fan running continuously. I let the plant dry slightly between waterings. I’ve never thought of mounting this as it has grown so well for me. I do feel like if kept in this same grow space it would be fine on a mount. Hope that helps a bit. |
