How gorgeous! I am always amazed when I see this flower. The shape and color and numerous blooms are so appealing. I have a Minmaru and hope to see flowers soon.

I see your plant has some shorter leaves interspersed with the longer ones. My plant does this also. Any idea just what causes it? (More specific than just "culture conditions", I mean.)

This one was mounted when I got it from a fellow OS member who was thinning her collection. I plopped in a clay pot and added orchiata, mount and all. You can see the mount (a circular piece of wood) in the back of the pot. I think the added moisture at the roots generated larger leaves since I got the plant.

Nice photos, and what a nice spike of blooms! I have one since September, and while it has grown an astonishing number of roots and 2 leaves, it shows no signs of blooming.

Mine also has alternating leaf sizes, and it seems that this plant is just a bit more sensitive to changes in culture. The first leaf that grew just after I bought it (and repotted from sphag to bark) was smaller, while the second one, that just finished growing, is back to a normal size. Now if only it would bloom...

I've only had mine for two blooms cycles and both have been in the spring. Not sure if they are spring bloomers or are not seasonal.

I grow this one inside under lights, which are lengthened or shortened most months to reflect natural day length outside. I grow it pretty bright and its allowed to dry out. There are several Cattleyas which don't appreciate Texas' heat (C. warscewiczii and a C. violacea x L. speciosa cross) growing next to this one.
