Paph. villosum var annamense

Bought this in bud a few months ago. Apparently a seedling offered by a guest speaker to one of the clubs I attend. Very nice plant, not cheap but a rarity around here. All the Paph growers walked past it, why I don't know as I know for a fact they don't have it.

Beautiful villosum; normally the dorsal will roll back a bit more. How long has it been open when y ou took the photo?

However, it is not variety annamense. Standard villosum has a white dorsal, overlaid with green and a dark brown center line (very broad in this plant). Var annamense lacks the green, and the brown turns more reddish on the now pure white background.

I believe in questioning the name but having tried to research it, I find about 8 different flowers named as annamense. These are in the main from growers whom I would have thought knew what it actually was in their collections. I will put it to an authority soon to get his opinion & go from there.

Interesting outcome so far. By a paper published on Paph villosum from Vietnam including pics, this Paph is extremely similar to P. villosum var villosum. Pics also show "Fig. 18-20. Variants of P. villosum var. villosum, which exhibit obvious morphological deviation toward var. annamense. © L. Averyanov"
It is of course quite possible this is a x between villosum v villosum & something else or var annamense. Don't think we'll ever know.

Beautiful. I have 2 villosum's. I got them as seedlings and have never bloomed them yet. They are finally doing much better but one will be a very long time before it blooms. How long are your leaves on this one. I'm guessing it is a smaller plant then allot of Paph's. My larger one has a second growth and I'm thinking it's getting about big enough to bloom.
