Happy s/h growing area

I just want to thank everyone on OB for helping me with s/h culture.

The big phal on the top shelf has grown 2 large leaves spanning 40cm (15 inches) & 27cm (11 inches) over a period of three and a half months!

This large phal was also switched to s/h three and a half months ago, it has grown 2 large leaves 30cm (12 inches) & 20 cm (8 inches). The roots in the pot has also gone crazy!
I am waiting for some flowers when it cools down in autumn.

s/h has been great for me, I have only had a few casualties. I think it is because I fiddle with the pot size and the distance to the reservoir or planting when there is no active growth.

I like s/h so much that I have managed to de-flask some babies:

Some of the seedlings are growing their fourth leaf.
They are sitting in a storage box in an inch of water- to increase the humidity.

A big thanks to this board!:)

Hi Bud! Congratulations with you s/h success! You inspire me to give it a try again with my phals....I have had great success with a few oncidiums, cattleya, cymbidiums, and paphs so far....so perhaps I just need to be more patient with my phals! Thanks for the wonderful pictures!

I just thought of a quick question for you....why does it appear that many of your phals in s/h are kind of leaning to the side....are they just growing that way?

Many of my species phal grow on an angle which is great in preventing water from sitting in the crown .. it's not unusual

definitely looking good. and it looks like my area too

the phals do grow at a good angle if they are kept a about 3 foot from the window. their 'stretching' will definitely not allow water to sit in the crows. particularly if u have the ones with short stems like phal. mannii.

as for the phals. when move then, definitelt try and keep the roots above the reservoir, and when it grow down there, that their decision, haha
