Living moss on S/H?

Aloha All,

I'm fairly new to S/H and noticed that some of my pots have green moss starting to grow on the LECA. What do y'all think about this? Who's encouraging vs removing the moss?

I do have pretty high humidity (typically 70% or higher) but the top layer of LECA does tend to be on the drier side. My thought is that it could help with the finer rooted plants (Pleurothalis and Masdevallia), but not sure if it will junk up the works.

The plants I have growing in S/H are;

Paphiopedilum
Phalaenopsis
Phragmipedium
Pleurothallis
Masdevallia

Thanks!

I don't think it's a problem at all. Plus it looks nice.

Doesn't seem to bother this Encyclia.

Just keep an eye on it. Sometimes, under the right conditions, algae can grow in the moss, resulting in a slimy, suffocating mess. Best I can tell, those "right conditions " includes overfeeding.

As long as the surface looks to be "mossy" and not "slimy", it's fine.
