Bay window setup
 

Here's a look at my window set up! I moved into this house over a year ago, but it took a long time to get everything to this point. We just got new windows put in which was an amazing feat in itself. This is facing east, with the right-most window being south-east facing, just for reference. I still want to hang some plants from the ceiling, but otherwise this space is just about finished.

What a fabulous place to grow orchids! All of your plants look great!

What are the bulbs you have growing? It looks as if you are going to have some beautiful flowers soon!

In the last photo, what is the plant on the lower right? Great light, nice setup, Maltese!

Thanks! They're paperwhite bulbs, I love to bring some feeling of spring into winter because I'm always in denial. Dolly, I think you're asking about the rattlesnake calathea.

It looks like an alligator. Can we see a better picture?

I do, too. I have Crocus sativus growing under my lights. Crocus and narcissus definitely add a little spring! :)

Dolly, look up Calathea lancifolia (or insignis.) It's a relative of the prayer plant. Calatheas do best with water very low in dissolved salts, like a lot of our orchids. I see this one, and relatives, at big home improvement stores from time to time.

Sorry, I keep forgetting to get a better photo of the calathea, and now I'm at work again! Yes it's a prayer plant type that moves its leaves up and down throughout the day. I try to water most of my plants with rainwater but now it's winter and the rain barrel has to be put away.

I usually have a large Honeywell evaporative humidifier in this room, which is attached to my bedroom, so we can all get the benefits of humidity in the winter, but I haven't set it up yet. I'm leaving tomorrow for a 10-day trip so I'm not planning to get it running until after that. Still, the RH doesn't usually get below 35% even with the heat blasting. I do prefer having it higher than that though.
