Black and yellow spots on leaves
 

Hi, my, what I think is a oncidium sphacelatum, has these brown/black spots on it’s leaves. Any thoughts on what it is or how to treat it? Someone mentioned to me over fertilizing? Also it has never bloomed, I have 3 other clumps of it around my garden in higher light areas and still nothing.

I don't think it's anything. How is your air movement? I do believe that Onc types do this sometimes. But if you don't have good air movement it could be a bacteria of some sort. The picture of the whole plant looks pretty healthy. I got an infection from a plant that I ordered but it went very quick like that and got all over the plants. It was my fault as I didn't have a fan in that room then.

As Shannon mentioned, a lot of Oncidiums get spots like this. Most of the time it's nothing to worry about.

Your plant would tolerate quite a bit more light. Maybe this would help encourage it to bloom. It would still be fine if the leaves had a distinct yellowish tinge to them.

I think no worries... could be fertilizer buildup, or a superficial bacterial incident, but it looks dry and not spreading. Also, older leaves just do this sort of thing before dropping. As for not blooming, Onc. sphacelatum tends to need to be huge before blooming. More light might help, but probably just needs to become a beast.

Thank you for your replies, fortunately it hasn't spread and the plant is otherwise healthy, she is outside on my balcony so she has plenty of air movement. I will move it to a higher light area. I didn't know that they need to be huge before blooming...thank you so much, I have hope now that she will still flower! :blushing:
