Warmth tolerant Cymbidiums

2 Attachment(s)
I bought a bunch from Hawaii back in March. I treated them exactly the same as my standard Cymbidiums =
  • Terrestrial Mix with lots of composted manure
  • Outside into full sun on 4/22/17 (in NJ)
  • Inside mid November, when 28F was forecast.
  • Watered regularly, and fertilizer every 2 weeks.

These 4 are (Blue Nose x Pumilow), and are blooming with 3-4 spikes each. One of these plants will be in the auction at the Stamford Judging Center on this Saturday.

I think that the term "warmth tolerant" is misleading. Except for a few high elevation Asian species like goeringii, I have never met a Cymbidium that isn't finewith major heat. From what I have seen, that term is applied to those that will bloom without the fall cool-down (they don't object to it, just don't need it) which is helpful when you're in an area like south Florida or the Texas gulf coast. But I'm not surprised that they perform just fine under the same conditions as the standards.

Agree. My cymbs are outside year-round and they grow very well in a temp range of 0-40ºC (32-104 F), ocasionaly outside of this range in both directions.
They are spiking now.
