My two orchids. Sharry Baby and Dove Orchid
 

Here are my two orchids! The peristeria elata is so huge! For reference I'm 5ft tall.:biggrin:

The dove orchid has some algae coexisting with it?I also ordered some orchid soil that is made for cymbidiums at the advice of the company. This one can be somewhat hard to find info on and even though it's terrestrial, I believe, it never seems to be included with the other terrestrial orchids. It's definitely top-heavy and I'm going to shop around for a decorative pot for stability after transplanting.

I think it's supposed to eat that old wrinkly bulb, but I am unsure. It does not seem to be needed for the sharry baby all the time, but I'm sifting through all the material to find the differences in care and I don't have it all sorted. lol
Currently they are both in a NE window w/ a cheap purple LED "grow" light since PNW winters are dark and gloomy, and really lovely. ;)

The Sharry Baby? Yes it is!! I'm a dope and initially thought the spike was a new leaf coming in with damage from being overexposed to light. :lol:
The vendor claimed it wouldn't bloom for minimum 24 months and I had no idea to expect a flower spike so soon! I am still surprised!

Interesting that with only 2 pseudo bulbs, the sharry baby is already blooming. Interesting to see how many flowers you would get. I got mine last year with 2 little pseudo bulbs. Then, it grew into 4 but only sent out 2 flower spikes BUT each spike didn't get that many flowers. Combined is less than 10.....

My Peristeria elata was recently eaten by rats. I have two small back pseudobulbs remaining that fell off when I repotted it. I don't know whether they will grow again.

I am SO sorry to hear rats ate yours!!!
I love the little critters and keep them as pets sometimes, but even I would be setting out traps if there were orchid nibblers running around.
