Air Roots
2 Attachment(s)
I have some air roots and leaves growing pretty high up on my stem. Can I cut it off and replant? Should I just leave them? Should I cut them off?
This is my first Orchid and don't want to kill it. |
What you have is a stem keiki. The root coming off the base of this plant looks long enough to grow on its own.
Gently remove the plant from the flower stalk and repot it in its own pot. You might consider removing the flower stalk and let the mother plant start another flower stalk. Or cut it to the nearest live node—it might send out another stem from that point. |
Yes, a nice, healthy keiki. Congratulations!

Nice job dude

Potting that keiki up is going to be a challenge.
For future reference, they should usually be removed and potted up when the sum of all of the root length has reached about 4". |
Welcome to the Orchid Board!
Most of us never, ever cut roots unless there is really no other option. |
I think that the keiki might make a good candidate for mounting!
