Dipteranthus pellucidis

More commonly known as Zygostates pellucida, this species is found in Brazil on moss/lichen covered tree limbs with cylindrical bulbs holding 2-3 inch olive green leaves. Blooming in the fall, the densely flowered inflorescence give way to long sprays of lime-green and pearl white blooms. These flowers are very complex; sparkling white sepals and petals with elongated, lime green lips that are split down the middle which give way to the pollen underneath.

I attempted pollinating one of the flowers, but it was very difficult to, first eject the pollen from the anther cap, and second, to figure out where the pollen needed to be deposited. I took a shot in the dark with where I put the pollen, hoping that it will take. If I am successful, I will then pollinate other flowers.

That's a mouthful but a sweet flower. Lots to admire.
