speciosa or tetraspis
2 Attachment(s)
I have both speciosa and tetraspis, or at least that's what they were bought as. Both have now bloomed, I can't tell the difference, maybe they are the same species in which case which one is it?
Both, had the same fragrance, a sort of burnt plastic, not entirely pleasant smell. First pic is "speciosa" second is "tetraspis" |
Some say that the two species are the same, while others say the two are closely related. As a rule, plants of speciosa seem to have more rounding to the petals and sepals than tetraspis.

There has been quite a debate around tetraspis and speciosa. I personnaly think they are the same species.
I think Phal tetraspis is supposed to be named Phal speciosa now. I grow a few speciosa, and last time I spoke with my resource from Taiwan I was told that the proper name for Phal tetraspis C#1 is actually P speciosa var. christiana. One thing is for sure, if they aren't the same, they re closely related! |
