New Den. disaster
 

Hello everyone! I've never owned a dendrobium so this is my first one. I purchased a dendrobium burana emerald from Ecuador (my country ) that ships for orchid shows in different countries including the U.S. and from the show to the consumer. My orchid arrived with beautiful grass green colored leaves and the roots were in moss without rot and slightly damp.

I re potted it into bark (not very tight) lightly sprayed the roots and placed it on a window that gets evening direct sun.

Three days later I find the leaves yellow like in the picture. Posted before and after pictures.
Now it's down to two leaves! will it come back to life? what to do? the roots look good to my surprise.

I also want to know as the same happen to me with an IKEA dendrobium (with similar spotting on the leaves). I soaked it in an anti-fungal, but didn't help.

I thought it could be deciduous, but are they (mine was a phal dendrobium like yours)?

In the end, it lost all the leaves. Now, the plant has a few keikis here and there. As long as the canes are green, it might have keikis and it might even flower (mine did).

I think it's just the shock of getting repotted possibly at a time that was not ideal (best is when they're just starting to put out roots) Dens will bloom on bare canes, and put out new growth when they're ready. So I think this plant will be fine.

Some Phal-type Dendrobiums are sensitive to being moved around and having their roots disturbed. I had one for many years that lost a few leaves every time I moved it outside or inside for the seasons. As Roberta said, it should recover. Just put it where you want it to grow and try not to move it until the new growth is well-established.

I am guessing you bought it from Ecuagenera? They are really a wonderful source for orchids. :)

It may depend on whether your orchid show was their first or last stop in the US. The plant may have been sitting in damp moss in poor lighting for some time before you bought it.
