masdie spike
 

so...my masd. floribunda has put out a little flower spike, but i'm wondering if it's actually going to bloom. the end of it has what looks like a little dry sheath. is this typical? or perhaps something stressed it and will keep it from blooming? :_(

Thanks, Tindo...that's what it seemed like to me too, but it's my first spike, so wasn't sure. Is that often due to humidity or temp issues? I think it may be putting out a new spike too nearby the first one. Guess I will just cross my fingers!

I have had this happen countless times with my Masdies. Never really figured it out, as I couldn't isolate any specific environmental changes. However, I will add that unless it starts to wither back completely, leave it, as occassionally a new flower will form on an old spike. (Even on the ones that are specifically 'multiflora'...) I agree with Tin, keep an eye out for other spikes starting!
