Zygopetalums in terrariums?
Hello all, I love zygopetalums but I'm afraid that my growing conditions aren't the best for them. Get too humid during the winter and way too hot in the growing room *it gets up to 90F there in the mid afternoon.*
I'e wanted to look into terrarium growing for a while and figured this was a good time to start moving forward with this idea. Wondering if there's any advice that could be given? Considering the relative size of zygopetalum compared to other orchids normally grown in terrariums, I imagine I'd need a larger terrarium than usual, perhaps something two feet deep. I was also curious about buying/constructing one. I'm not sure how I would go about getting what I need. I'm not afraid to build it if required, but unsure how I would go about doing that. Any help is appreciated. |
There's a whole forum here dealing with terraria. You will find an enormous amount of knowledge. In the left menu click on Forums, then look for Terrariums.
Cooling terraria is not that easy. It is possible. |

Some people in hot areas get second-hand glass-fronted refrigerators, like the ones you get under counters in bars for storing beer in, and then use them as terrariums. Might be worth researching.
