Guarianthe (Cattleya) aurantiaca 'Plov'
I received this division from the Troy Meyer's Conservancy late last summer or early fall. I managed to kill its few roots in short order. Mounted it, it threw a TON of roots and now has given me this lovely display (eight flowers total). This particular cultivar does seem to be one of the ones that does not like to open its flowers all the way, but I love the HOT orange color.

Canes are ~18'' long. Also, in case anyone else gets or has this and the sheath shrivels up and dies... It's gonna be okay. My sheath dried up and was dead a good month before I noticed it fattening with buds. |
Snow! Wow! Plant looks even better against that!

Haha, yes it does! This was our most recent storm Tuesday, 18'', heavy wind gusts and the power was out for ~16 hours and we were the lucky ones. Several roads closed due to trees wrapped in power lines in the middle of the road. I am very happy we have a wood stove and were able to keep the house warm.
For reference, a week or two ago, we were in the 50's and 60's and celebrating spring :(( |
What a wonderful shape and color! I love the lip, too.

Beautiful. My canes are not nearly as long as yours. My tallest is only 9 inches. But Mine also comes out of dry sheaths.
I'm so happy our snow is gone. I know we will get some more before it's over. |
