Vanilla Orchid produced a weird ?pod?
So my vanilla plant has this odd pod/leaf coming out of, what I think, looks like where the flowers were... and it has a black spot where it looks like the flower attached. But, its wide like a leaf, and thick like a pod. Anyone seen these? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...2b5f3bd1c5.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f93b25c250.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7b526e6e25.jpg

Yes, it's an orchid seed pod :)

Oh how cool. You are getting a bean.
|
That's a vanilla bean! How delightful!
|
Isn't it odd how wide it is though?:) usually they are thin like String Beans, but this thing is like an Inch and a half wide😳 It's a monster bean lol

Could it be fasciated? You frequently see that in perennials.

That's what I was thinking. It's just very odd:) we'll have to wait and see what it turns into. Here is another image from the flat side.

It doesn't look fasciated - though it DOES look like a snow pea! Is it possible that different species of vanilla have differently shaped pods?
|
The plant did bloom recently, and I did pollinate it, but didn't think it took. And just now I noticed this thing:) Its coming out of the spike, where the cluster of flowers was. I searched for different variations of vanilla plants but they all seem to look like skinny long bean stalks. Can't find anything remotely like this thing. Its shaped like a small leaf, and is thick on through the middle but thinner around the edges. So considering it take a vanilla bean like 9mo to mature, I'll be dying with anticipation lol

To me this looks like an abnormal growth, not completly leaf not completly seedpod. It happens.
