green stems turning red?
I was wondering what this is caused from? I thought for sure that the phals stem was green when i got it and now its turning red?
any suggestions?:scratchhead: |
"stem" u referring to the place where all the leafs join or the stem as in where all the flowers bloom off of?
|
:blushing: the..spike i think its called, where the nubs and flowers come of of...

The red coloring is from the increase of light. It turns red to protect itself from burning. It is a good indication that your plant is recieving adequate light.

ok, so its a good thing then? im afriad im a bit paranoid, LOL
|
Yep its good, there are lots of orchids that turn red, especially on the spikes
|
thank you so very much for you reassurance!
|
ya i agree, but definitely be careful though, not all orchids are able to a 'tan' to protect itself. only a few phals and some cattleya can

A lot of epis do the same thing. My schoenorchis fragrans will also get a reddish tinge along the leaf edges in good light. Not to worry, imo.
