leaf curl on Paph Hsinying Majakun
 

i just got this the other day, Hsinying Majakun Im pretty sure, it had no tag. didnt notice the curled leaf till i got home. anyone have an idea what causes this?

When that part of the leaf was forming/growing. . .it got too dry.

Unfortunately, it doesn't go away, once the plant receives more water.

ok i guess ill just cut that leaf off then :rofl: (just kidding of course)

seriously though, what are some general care tips for this one. i have phal and catt and odtcdm. these paphs need more water than those right? same light as phal or maybe a little more?

I've got the same one. . .mine is super happy in an Exo-Terra tank with high humidity, and intermediate temps. . .low light (maybe 600 fc) And I've got a fan going in there too 24/7.

I don't keep it wet. I let it dry out slightly between waterings. It's got great new growth.

P.S. You know I do trim off ugly bits on the tips of leaves. . .I try to sort of match the leaf shape and trim judiciously.

hhmmm. i definitely cant do the high humidity part, at least in the winter. (im assuming you mean like 60 or 70%?)i keep mine on a cart under MH in the basement and the ambient humidity rarely gets above 40% in the winter except when i run the dryer which is vented indoors in winter. i do have everybody on humidity trays though and am planning to fasten some acrylic panels to the cart very soon...

I keep my mottle-leaved Paphs next to Phals at approx 30-40% humidity. Don't think humidity was the culprit. I'll bet it was too dry when it wanted more water. I grow mine in clear pots (well, not "clear" but see-through) slotted. I can monitor condition of the mix. I tend to water a bit more frequent than Brassias and Cats. Hope that mean something to you! :) I've got three more new guys I plan to move to small clear pots for same reason.

I don't have very high RH either and I have one blooming now. The leaf pleating is from not enough water when the leaf was emerging. I grow mine like my phals with about 1000-1500 fc of light, and around 50% humidity. They do like to be moister and if it's warm out they will often get a mid week water.

the curled (rippled) leaf occurred due to lack of water as that leaf was developing. It will always be rippled, even after hydration. I would not trim the leaf unless it dessicates, turns brown.

Paphs in our collection go to damp/slightly dry between waterings; they enjoy temps between 60 - 80, good air circulation and high humidity, medium, indirect light.

yea I agree the plant didn't get the water it needed during development. However you plant looks very healthy.
