Catasetum seedpod
anybody know how long it takes to mature ?
I've heard conflicting stories - one, that its up to a year and this one ( 8 weeks ) http://www.willgro.ca/caresheets/Catasetum.pdf |
Depends on the species. And the time of year it was sown. If sown in the spring, it is around 6 months (or as early as 5 months) from pollination to harvest (split pod). If sown in the fall it can take up to a year. What is the cross?

I'm using After Dark as pod parent. Its at 6 weeks and still growing - yet comparatively much smaller than other orchids I have propagated ( phals, catts, zygo's, paph ) at that age. Hence me thinking that there is a long way to go.
Its only about an inch long. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...25befff55a.jpg |
Hmm I'd say by fall it should be ripe. What did you cross onto it? Where will you send the seed?

I'll let you know if it makes it. The stem above and immediately below is brown - dead looking and feeling.

I started watering - about 1/4 cupful - 1x per week. Pod seems to have plumped up a bit, but more interestingly 3 nubbins popped up out of the pseudobulb.
Photo of the 2 - other one is on the other side. This has never happened before to this plant and in fact its twin is still fully dormant ( and unwatered ). It had 2 spikes in Fall. I wonder what these are going to be ? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...4ab7851cfd.jpg |
