Not the best flowering this year--probably thanks to me transplanting it to a new pot last summer--but there were still two spikes produced. Flowers are highly fragrant, even a bit too much if you stick your nose very close to the blooms (there are probably other reasons to enjoy the scent from a distance, as I decided this afternoon after I nearly inhaled a fuzzy little jumping spider that was resting within the cluster of flowers). Even though this particular plant is a robust (albeit slow) grower, it's never produced the pendant "foxtail" spikes that I've seen on other plants. I may try to transfer it to a wooden slat basket after it's finished blooming to see if that might encourage it to bloom more profusely next winter.

In order to get the cascading flower spike, your plant must be older and larger. Younger plants produce smaller spikes but when the plant is about twenty inches across it will produce three or four "foxtail" inflourescence. My plant that I have had for years blooms regularly at Christmas and the flowers last for about two months. I agree with you about the scent though. Too powerful.

I just submitted a thread in the advanced forum asking about this orchid and every bit helps as I've never had a Rhy. before. I figured the requirements would be about the same as the V. or Ascon. Thanks for your addition.
