Cattleya jenmanii 'Majestic' x C. percivaliana 'Summit' FCC/AOS

Hi all,

This is Cattleya jenmanii 'Majestic' x C. percivaliana 'Summit' FCC/AOS. I have had this for several years as well. Three spikes with 5 blooms. Also a bit fewer than the usual. It blooms every year for me around December. The scent is soooooo good. My daughters can't stop sniffing it.

Sorry about the back light, I couldn't reposition the plant into any other more favourable lighting. Oh well.

Wow! Blow me away!
Fragrant too?

That is beautiful and the arrangement of plants is artful! I surmise from the palm fronds that you do not own cats...the furry kind. 😃

Thanks all,

That's a Cycad, and no furry cats either. No pets allowed, but they never said anything about plants. :D

Oh, that is simply stunning. Congrats!

Extremely cunning!

Those are fantastic, although they look like a true C. jenmanii to me (which would also account for the great fragrance), as I can't see any influence from percivaliana (other than the bloom period). They really are quite pretty, and I like the way the plant is growing in multiple directions. It should form a great specimen for you. Congratulations on your flowers.

Nicely bloomed Tindol.

A bit on the two species ...The fragrance of jenmaniis is sweet like candy, while percivaliana is like cough medicine. The shape of the flowers are like jenmaniis, including the white eyes on the lip side lobes. However the deep yellow throat has the dark percivaliana orangey colours. Both species can bloom in December, although jenmaniis more so in November and sometimes a second time in April. Percivalianas bloom from November till January, majority in December. Plants of jenmaniis are also usually taller and have broad curvier leaves, while percivalianas have straight upright leaves, tight growths and less tall. So what say you?

Thanks Leslie. Your description of the species plants shows how intermediate this plant is between the two. Happily, the scent is certainly candy like. The plant is still in full bloom.
